The Real Taste of Goa
When one utters the word "Goa," the mind invariably conjures images of sun-kissed beaches or, for the more discerning, the forts that stand guard along the coastline.
Yet, in Goa, there is a network of stunningly beautiful treks that show us the real beauty of the state.
These treks take you to parts of Goa that only a few know about. Lush jungles, secluded villages, and ancient ruins are hidden in these areas.
At Indiahikes, we love these treks. One of our favourites is the Goa Netravali Forest Trek. It combines the best of the beaches and the jungles, revealing a side of Goa that few have experienced.
The trek begins as we drive from Margao to the heart of Goa’s greenery—the Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary. Here, we camp inside the sanctuary that immerses us in the wild surroundings. The silence of the jungle, interrupted only by birdsong, begins to work its magic as soon as we arrive.
This trek is in official partnership with the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC).
The next day, we begin the main part of our trek in the Goa Netravali Sanctuary. Walking through Netravali is like entering a hidden botanical paradise. The trail is surrounded by dense forests, and a chorus of birdsong accompanies us all the way.
Later in the day, we go to the pristine Agonda Beach, where we unwind at a basic beachside accommodation. The sound of waves crashing against the shore and the sun setting over the horizon creates an unforgettable experience. It's a tranquil end to a day of exploring Goa’s jungles.
We head toward the famous Cabo de Rama fort on our final day. Our trail takes us along a scenic path that leads to a viewpoint with panoramic views of palm-fringed beaches. The sight is nothing short of spectacular.
We then explore the historic Cabo de Rama Fort, built by Shivaji in 1679. The fort, with its ancient cannons and bastions, tells the story of Goa's rich past. From the fort’s vantage point, we take in the vast expanse of the Arabian Sea before we make our way back to Margao.
This trek is a journey through Goa’s hidden gems—its untouched forests, peaceful villages, beaches, and fascinating history. It’s not just about reaching a destination, but about experiencing the real essence of Goa. And it’s a trek that will captivate the adventurer in you.

5 Reasons Why Indiahikes
We are known for our pioneering safety practices in trekking. Microspikes, oximeters, and BP checks became standards thanks to us. In the mountains, emergencies don't care who you're with—everyone knows that when trouble hits, you look for the yellow tents of Indiahikes.
We are pioneers in trekking. Since 2007, we have brought out treks that have become India's most famous treks: Roopkund, Rupin Pass, Buran Ghati, Kedarkantha, Kashmir Great Lakes, Tarsar Marsar, Brahmatal, Phulara Ridge—the list goes on. In 2023 alone, we brought out five new treks in Indian trekking. We know treks better than anyone. This comes directly from the reason why Indiahikes was born: to bring out trek information and enable trekkers to trek on their own.
More than 30,000 people trek with us every year. We are the largest trekking organisation in India. 24% of our trekkers come back to trek with us every year. Over 4,000 students from the top educational institutions trek with us every year. Aside from this, families with children choose to trek with Indiahikes knowing that our treks are the safest. We have taken over 8000 children trekking so far, and the number continues to grow.
We focus on designing transformative experiences. Our trek leaders conduct thought-provoking exercises that help you reflect and contemplate. This impact stays with you for a long time. Trekkers return feeling energised, more confident, or developing abilities to deal with difficulties. Many have changed careers, rethought their core values, become more humble, shown gratitude to others, or started a new fitness journey.
For us, sustainability is not just writing on the wall. Using eco-bags, our trekkers have cleared over 120 tonnes of litter from the mountains. We do not carry packaged foods; instead, we serve freshly made food. We do not light campfires; we carry coal to light angethis to keep you warm. Our bio-toilets not only keep our toilets odour-free but also enrich the soil. When you trek with us, you leave mountains better.
